Journal of Management and Governance aims at being a `journal of ideas. It is devoted to the inquiry into the cognitive and relational foundations of governance, and into the analysis and design of governance structures and their relations with management, in the private as well as the public sector. Governance includes the modes of allocating decision, control and reward rights within and between economic organization, giving raise to a variety of forms of market, industry and firm organization. This understanding of governance is both common and highly important to a number of disciplines and sub-disciplines in social science, including institutional economics, economic sociology, organization theory, and cognitive and behavioral sciences. Journal of Management and Governance is an arena of encounter and debate between those scientific networks, among which Journal of Management and Governance promotes communication and even integration, thanks to critical and micro-analytic perspectives, trying to expla, rather than assume, how knowledge and preference are formed and inform governance solutions. Management represents the conscious steering and engineering of economic activities and of their regulation. Thus, the activity of management is very much that of governing, especially through the design and innovation of economic strategies and structures. Contributions from all the areas of business administration, and studies in both the private and public sectors are welcome, to the extent they contribute to these general issues.Among the kind of issues that are relevant to this broad research agenda there are: the engineering of incentives and contracts, the structuring of accountability and control, the design of internal and inter-firm governance mechanisms, the nature and selection of actors cognitive and relational strategies and their relations with governance structures, and the structuring of institutions that frame those choices.Journal of Management and Governance is international in authorship and editorship. It follows the internationally shared norms of blind review and research quality standards, but it distinctively and deliberately adheres to a paper-constructing rather than a paper-destroying review approach. The journal is pluralist as to method and paper format. Any research strategy is admitted, if effective for the issue at hand and rigorous with respect to the rules of the adopted methodology - it being laboratory or field experimentation, survey research or simulation, case study research or statistical analysis.In order to give space to interesting material, even though not formatted according to the traditional article pattern, two special Sections are arranged: a `Views and Debates section hosting new ideas and views, criticisms and debates, thought-provoking and action-provoking contributions on actuality issues; a `Research Notes section is planned for drawing attention towards interesting data and new phenomena.A `Reviews and Overviews section aims at opening dialogues and promotes ongoing debates amongst scholars on theoretical and empirical issues raised in recently published books in the area of management and governance.
